Collection: Natural Clay and Glazes

As part of my series made exclusively of natural ingredients, these clay and glaze materials were collected and processed by hand. The clays that make up with body are mixed together with water, strained, and set out to dry over a period of about a week. The glaze materials are collected in mineral form. These rocks are hand-crushed in a mortar and pestle. Once they have been ground down to the size of a small pebble, the materials are then run through a ball mill for varying lengths of time. The resulting fine powders can then be mixed together in various ratios and suspended in water to be used as glazes. This arduous process is worth-while as it produces unique surfaces that are full of variation and depth.
